Book Week

Last week  at SEK we celebrated book week, not only with students but with staff and parents as well. On the first day of book week the D.E.A.R time concept was introduced to students and staff to be practiced throughout the whole week. D.E.A.R time stands for drop everything and read time and this happened everyday between 8:00 to 8:20. Each grade had different activities throughout the week. On the first day grades eight, nine and ten visited the college of North Atlantic to have a tour of their facilities and their library. Meanwhile the grades six and seven had an author visit by Mr Khalid Al Obaidan (Arabic poet). The students were fascinated by the elements of Arabic poetry. On the second day of book week the whole MYP was lucky enough to have the author Mrs. Mohana Rajakumar go through the process of becoming an author. She highlighted important aspects such as the difference between writers and authors and also focused on the importance of time management, an ATL skill we are encouraged to develop. On the third day of book week we were honored to have Mrs. Justine Jewell visit our school and give us a very motivational speech about finding our passions and how that helps us to follow dreams. As you can see MYP had a lot of fun during this week just like the PYP did. They had the opportunity to have a mystery event. These mystery readers were varied from parents to teachers and they would read in multiple languages. The PYP also had the chance to dress  up as their favorite book characters in the last day of book week. In the main hall there a was book exhibition available to all grades and their parents. Book week was a great experience for all of us and we would like to thank the book week committee.
